The opportunities in Hong Kong weren't as clear to me. The day to day was getting a little more complicated, and sad. I decided to see what was making me feel that way: I didn't feel connected with the place we were living, I didn't have time to dedicate myself to studying and discovering new things. My routine was to help the children catch the bus to school, clean the house, do the grocery shopping, prepare dinner, and pick up the children from school. Months of many conversations with Daniel...!
We decided to make some changes:
• we moved to another area – we went to Discovery Bay, a small island, with a lot of greenery and an incredible community of people who come from different parts of the world. An open place, spaces, where cars are not allowed. Everyone uses public transport. And the cost of living 20% less expensive than in the Kowloon area, where we were living before.
• We hired a person to be responsible for doing the housework at home and providing support with the children, and
• I decided to continue researching businesses that inspire me and to connect with people who had worldwide views and similar interests.
It was on a hike (mountain hike – a very popular sport here in Hong Kong), observing the number of plastic bottles that were along the way, I reflected on why the world is the way it is. At what point do we disconnect from nature and think we can invade and occupy these spaces in such an inconsequential way? And I started thinking about solutions.
In a conversation with two amazing women (who became great friends!), we discussed the current education model and what had to be changed. What was the true definition of success and how the school was preparing young people for life. They told me about the “Green School”, an amazing school in Bali, Indonesia. It was love at first sight! The three of us decided to go to Bali and take the 1-week course on the teaching model, in May 2018. Who knows, maybe we could close a partnership and bring the Green School to Hong Kong and one day to Brazil? That was our intention.
